چکیده
Abs t rac t . This paper is devoted to the study of graph embeddings in the grid of non-planar surfaces. We provide an adequate model for those embeddings and we study the complexity of minimizing the number of bends. In particular, we prove that testing whether a graph admits a rectilinear (without bends) embedding essentially equivalent to a given embedding, and that given a graph, testing if there exists a surface such that the graph admits a rectilinear embedding in that surface are NPcomplete problems and hence the corresponding optimization problems are NP-hard.

In this paper we consider to embed a tree T with N vertices on a set of N points inside a simple polygon on n vertices and the goal is to minimize the number of bends. The main idea of our algorithm is modeling the problem into graph matching problem and uses the graph matching algorithms. We apply the concept of error-correction transformation and find the appropriate cost function then we per...
متن کاملComplexity of Higher-Degree Orthogonal Graph Embedding in the Kandinsky Model
We show that finding orthogonal grid-embeddings of plane graphs (planar with fixed combinatorial embedding) with the minimum number of bends in the so-called Kandinsky model (which allows vertices of degree > 4) is NP-complete, thus solving a long-standing open problem. On the positive side, we give an efficient algorithm for several restricted variants, such as graphs of bounded branch width a...
متن کاملDynamic Grid Embedding with Few Bends and Changes
In orthogonal graph drawing, edges are represented by sequences of horizontal and vertical straight line segments. For graphs of degree at most four, this can be achieved by embedding the graph in a grid. The number of bends displayed is an important criterion for layout quality. A well-known algorithm of Tamassia eeciently embeds a planar graph with xed combinatorial embedding and vertex degre...
متن کاملOn the computational complexity of finding a minimal basis for the guess and determine attack
Guess-and-determine attack is one of the general attacks on stream ciphers. It is a common cryptanalysis tool for evaluating security of stream ciphers. The effectiveness of this attack is based on the number of unknown bits which will be guessed by the attacker to break the cryptosystem. In this work, we present a relation between the minimum numbers of the guessed bits and uniquely restricted...
متن کاملLine completion number of grid graph Pn × Pm
The concept of super line graph was introduced in the year 1995 by Bagga, Beineke and Varma. Given a graph with at least r edges, the super line graph of index r, Lr(G), has as its vertices the sets of r-edges of G, with two adjacent if there is an edge in one set adjacent to an edge in the other set. The line completion number lc(G) of a graph G is the least positive integer r for which Lr(G) ...
